Last Thursday, the Battle of the Bands Rewind event turned into a small affair at Fusion.
With four of the county’s declared best bands who made it through to the final, it was a good night out for all who attended, but the lack of fans was highly noticeable on arrival.
Dazed, who came fourth in this year’s Battle of the Bands, kicked off the night with their collection of psychedelic rock music, every song enhanced by Nadine Headley’s ever-amazing voice. Their set included mostly originals but they also managed to get the crowd rocking out to their great rendition of Muse’s huge hit, Plug In Baby.
Next on the stage was Superego, a band mixing funk rock and pop punk especially well. As well as playing various songs reminiscent of Red Hot Chili Peppers, the band ventured into performing Feeder’s Buck Rogers, RHCP’s Dani California and Raconteurs’ Steady As She Goes.
Roll Machine caused chaos next, with the crowd getting very hyped up for them. They stormed through several of their own 80s-style metal songs, as well as a take on Free’s Alright Now, which went down a treat with the audience.
The final band was the triumphant winner of Battle of the Bands, Blindspot. They immediately got the crowd going with one of their heavier songs and went on to perform a set consisting of an equal mix of originals and covers, their own including White Spark and Think Straight (but not Hold On, which seems to be a favourite among fans). Their covers included a second performance of the night of Muse’s Plug In Baby as well as another Muse song, Time Is Running Out, both of which they pulled off with precision and expertise, reminding us once again of why they deserved to be the winners of Battle of the Bands.
Despite the low turnout, the event was a success for the bands and as the crowd enjoyed their songs, there were no disappointments.
